Welcome to my new site Shelley Smyth Fitness. I am so excited about the new look! Can you tell I toned it all down…lol.Since I can talk for hours on end about training and Nutrition I developed this Shell-talk series to get it all out there!

I would like you to use your imagination for a second and think of a car…. It can be any make, model etc….your pick!

Now all cars have 4 tires in order to move. Correct? Now picture and relate this car to your body. Each tire supports an important part in order for the car to move forward.

The first tire is Strength training, the second tire is Nutrition, the third tire is Cardio, and the fourth tire is REST (my fav)! Now if one of these tires is flat or dead then the car will not operate properly nor will it move forward or progressNow take a look at your car…Do you have any flat or dead tires? If so this is the reason why you are not progressing in your fitness or moving forward. Often times we are lacking in rest, or eating poorly, or not doing any cardio or not strength training properly. They ALL affect each other and in order to have success and a healthy running engine then you must fill the tires back up and find balance.

Nutrition or clean eating or Fuel would you say is valuable and 80% of the picture because this is what is your body is using for energy/fuel and to get around. You may be over or under fueling. If you are lacking in knowledge of what to eat, when to eat, how much to eat then you probably have a flat tire on that wheel! Learning how to properly fuel your body does leaps and bounds in terms of the rest of your training, cardio and sleep (guaranteed)!

I love using this metaphor because it is so true when you really think about it. You can have a cardio junkie who only eats minimal good food, stays up late with little sleep and does NO strength training and wonders why they never make progress. And they will say; “but I am doing 2 hours of cardio a day”…. Well my answer would be your body is severely out of balance and your other three tires are blown out. I educate all my clients the importance of balance within and without. Without a healthy running engine and 4 full tires you will be calling AAA! Till next time, love and health, Shell-the talker!
